Travancore is an area less explored by culinary experts. Travancore lying on the coastal areas from the central to the south of Kerala, from the coastline of Kochi or Cochin extended to the great capital city of the present day Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum for short. It travels through the coast of Kochi, the backwaters and mainlands of Alleppey, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta & Kollam town to the present day capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
Being along the coast, the people of this region loves sea food. The magic lies in being close to sea. Travancore Recipes have many things in common with the Christian Syrian or Suriani way of cooking, with the Travancore side also including a lot of vegetarian recipes. Suriani way has a lot of non-vegetarian like meat & sea food blended in one with less of vegetarian dishes. Travancore side as there was and still has many vegetarians during our time only vegetable or fruit dishes were favored.
